For over two decades, Atmosphere has maintained a course of rigorous output, releasing over two dozen studio albums, EP’s and collaborative side projects in as many years. In that time, the venerated duo have built a legacy out of bringing honesty, humility and vulnerability to the forefront of their music, continually challenging themselves to evolve without straying too far from their roots. Slug has proven masterful at storytelling and writing compelling narratives, leaving a trail of his own influence while paying homage to the rappers and songwriters that helped shape him. Ant has skillfully molded the soundtracks with inspiration from soul, funk, rock, reggae, and the wizardry of hip-hop’s pioneering DJ’s and producers, creating his own trademark sounds while providing the pulse for songs about life, love, stress and setbacks. At its essence, Atmosphere has been a musical shepherd, and with each new album comes a new journey as they guide generations of listeners through this thing called life.

Iration has a natural affinity for reggae and island sounds. Their love and appreciation for music spans across a wide range of styles and genres including rock, pop, R&B and funk. Over the past 15 years, the celebrated five-piece – Micah Pueschel [Lead Vocals / Guitar], Adam Taylor [Bass], Joe Dickens [Drums], Cayson Peterson [Keyboard / Synth] and Micah Brown [Guitar / Vocals] – have perfected their distinct hybrid style of music, blending all influences together as evidenced on their seventh, and most recent, full-length album Coastin’ [Three Prong Records). A record about being thankful for the moments that we have.

Iration has been touring nationally since 2008, performing at festivals nationwide from Lollapalooza to Sunfest and Hangout, closing stages at festivals like Bottlerock and Outside Lands. The Hawaiian-bred musicians look forward to spreading their original sound and’Aloha spirit’ all the while never forgetting to get a surf in when possible.

The Grouch

Rapper and producer the Grouch has been a valued underground hip-hop figure since he co-founded Living Legends, a loose collective of MCs and DJs from the Bay Area, Japan, and Europe. The crew set themselves apart from the vast majority of their fellow West Coast rap artists by favoring clear-eyed raps about everyday issues. They coupled this with a grassroots approach to the music business, choosing to self-release and market their prodigious output. The Grouch’s extensive work as a solo artist and co-headliner, from Don’t Talk to Me (1995), his debut, through Thees Handz (2019), a collaboration with Murs, has only reinforced the reputation he started building in the first half of the ’90s.

Shortly after he formed Living Legends with fellow Oakland natives Mystik Journeymen, the Grouch (born Corey Scoffern) established his solo discography with three LPs in as many years: Don’t Talk to Me (1995), Nothing Changes (1996), and Success Is Destiny (1997). These albums, all released on Living Legends’ Outhouse label, marked the beginning of an incredibly prolific recording schedule that would also find the Grouch doing his own production work. Fuck the Dumb (1998) and Making Perfect Sense (1999), along with various singles and EP releases, rounded out by the decade. It was around this time that Living Legends moved their base of operations from Oakland to Los Angeles, where a portion of its membership had originally resided before moving to the Bay Area.

The Grouch wasn’t in the studio quite as frequently during the next two decades — during which he settled with his family in Maui — yet the wait between each one of his releases was never long, and was filled with production assignments and featured appearances. Among his true solo albums was Crusader for Justice (2003), which featured keyboards and guitar from his father, veteran Bay Area musician Stu Blank. The Grouch’s tandem work continued to be carried out most often with fellow Living Legends member Eligh. The duo put together LPs such as Say G&E! (2009) and The Tortoise and the Crow (2014), both of which registered on the Billboard 200 chart. Other artists with whom the Grouch released full-length projects were Luckyiam (under duo alias the CMA), Zion I, and DJ Fresh, as well as Murs, another Living Legend. Thees Handz (2019) closed out the Grouch and Murs’ third decade of making music with one another.

Katastro

Hailing from the desert of Tempe, Arizona, the members of Katastro gather to create a unique sound, blending elements of rock, funk, blues and hip hop. Formed in 2007 by vocalist Andy Chaves, drummer Andrew Stravers and guitarist Tanner Riccio, later joined by bassist Ryan Weddle, Katastro has been gaining a lot of exposure while impressing their peers at the same time. Opening for national acts such as the 311, Bad Religion, Awolnation, Dirty Heads, New Politics, Method Man, Redman, Ghostface Killah, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, and Passafire, they continue to pull in their audience with their intriguing and entertaining live show.
